German Shepherd Dogs have a long heritage of being used for protection work, because they're loyal, intelligent, courageous, fast, and powerful.

Loyal is the KEY word! They will give their life for you. Period.

More importantly... Germany takes great pride in their beloved German Shepherd Dogs... and they're constantly striving to better the breed.   (unlike the 'American Bred' German Shepherd -full of faults 'Temperament and Physical' )

What is schutzhund?

 "Schutzhund"  means "protection dog". Schutzhund is a test to determine the breeding worthiness of each German Shepherd Dog. And this test requires each dog to prove excellence in tracking, obedience, and protection work, including non-dog agressive, safe & friendly.

German Shepherd Dogs cannot be bred in Germany without passing these grueling tests. That's right. No German Shepherd Dog is allowed to be bred in Germany without first passing many tests. THEY also must have a Good temperament, Conformation and Good 'a' hips!!

It usually takes 2-3 years of daily training to pass the schutzhund test.

Further, Germany doesn't allow just any two German Shepherd Dogs to be bred together. A breeding warden must first approve the match & inspect and tatoo EACH litter.

As you can see, Germany takes their German Shepherd Dogs very seriously. And it's these strict breeding standards that makes their German Shepherd Dogs superior to American Shepherds.
